Regarding Perry W. Fuller, I have long been trying to find out what happened to him after 1892. By chance, I came across a book at the library called Columbia Then and Now, which was written in the 1929. According to the author, P. W. Fuller left Columbia, moved to Georgia (most likely Meriwether County) and died there. The following passage may explain why in Alsey Fuller's will, he left Perry's share in a trust to Jones Calhoun Fuller for Perry's children to divide. Evidently as early as 1879 Perry was already mixed up in religion and was losing everything he had. This is the passage from the book concerning Perry William Fuller. 'There was a man by the name of P. W. Fuller, who ran a hat and clothing store on Main street near where the State Office is. He was a member of the Methodist Church; had a good business and had the respect of his fellowmen. He got the notion in his head that the Baptists were right, and quit the Methodist Church. Then he got the notion that the Jews were right; that the Savior had never come, and then he took up the fool notion of Spiritualism and kept going from bad to worse until he lost everything--- his business, his friends, his self-respect, and the respect of his fellowmen-- going into the depths of degradation. Leaving here he went to Georgia and died."
Until I came across this book, the last documentation I had found on Perry was a newspaper notice in 1892 where he bought a lot on Winn Street (now Gregg) for $100.
I recently received documentation on Perry's son, Samuel Fair Fuller. This is the man I believe was incarcerated in Sing Sing Prison. He was a merchant marine for 16 years and served under ships bearing the US and UK flags. He entered Snug Harbor Sailor's Home in Staten Island, New York. He died there in 1939 and is buried in the sailor's cemetery. Snug Harbor moved to NC in the mid 1970's and the original is now a fine arts complex on Staten Island. I have his death information including burial, and his admittance application for Snug Harbor. He lists his parents and DOB. I will scan these documents shortly and add to the website. |
