Michael
Dickert Family
The
Dickert family of the SC Dutch Fork descend through Michael Dickert,
only son of Peter Dickert. This family has been described by Yancey
Dickert in "A History & Genealogy of Peter Dickert of
S.C." (1992).
Peter
Dickert arrived 19 Sept 1752 in Charleston, coming on the Cunliffe, with
wife and four children: Mary Magdalene, age 19; Barbara, 16; Michael,
14; and Susannah, 11. The petition of Peter Dickert was heard 4 Nov
1752.
An
initial 300 acre survey was located on Camping Cr., however, the family
settled on Crims Cr. soon after coming to SC and, a second 300 acre
tract (from previously surveyed land) was granted to Peter Dickert in
1764. SC Colonial records of the first grant are under the name of
"FitchCart," in the second grant the name was rendered
"Rickert."
The
300 acre grant on Crims Creek was sold in 1786 by Michael Dickert,
Planter, to Matthias Quattlebaum. In this deed, Michael Dickert is
described as son of Peter Dickert, to whom the land was granted.
Peter
Dickert was a Justice of the Quorum and a Justice of the Peace. With
John Adam Epting he obtained a grant from the King of England for St.
John's Lutheran Church at Pomaria, SC in 1763 and he served as an Elder
in the Church.
