This is a story relayed to me by Timothy Connelly, as it was passed down through his side of the family.

Allen Lester, father of Martha and Rebecca Lester Connelly, and John Atwood Connelly were neighbors. The whole situation with John, Martha and Rebecca was unusual, in that Martha was married to John Atwood, but Rebecca lived in the house with them.  Both women bore him many children.

One cold snowy night after the war (the war of Northern Aggression), Allen was sitting around a fire thinking. He was thinking about the whole Atwood/Martha/Rebecca situation. The more he thought about it, the madder he got. He said to himself he wasn't going to put up with that embarrassment any longer. He put on his coat and loaded his gun. He started off through the woods in the dark towards the Connelly farm. His intention was to kill Atwood. When he got to the house, he looked through the window and saw Atwood with a child on his knee, one of the daughters had another child on her lap, and the other daughter was sewing. Allen said they all looked so content sitting there and figured if they could live with the situation, he could too. With that, he turned around and went back home.

The Connelly property backed up to the Fairview Community. The Connelly Family donated one acre of land for the construction of Fairview School. They lost most of the property during the depression, not being able to afford the taxes.
